The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001, which was signed into law on January 8, 2002 and which is currently up for reauthorization, is perhaps the most sweeping reform of federal education legislation since the original Elementary and Secondary Education Act was passed in 1965. The guiding tenets of NCLB are concentrated in four major areas: 1) Accountability for Student Achievement, 2) Focus on What Works, 3) Flexibility, and 4) Parental Involvement.
