The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) was amended as the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). The primary function of ESSA is to close the achievement gap between groups of students by requiring greater accountability and offering increased flexibility and choice. The ESSA Act affects almost every school district and charter school in the state.
The Title I program under ESSA is comprised of components: Highly Qualified Paraprofessionals, Parental and Family Engagement, Fiscal Planning, Comprehensive Needs Assessments and campus Improvment Plans, and Private-Non-Profit Schools. Region 3 offers Professional Development in these areas, as well as Compliance, Applications, Homelessness/foster Care, Parent Notifications, School Support Teams, School Improvement, and other trainings for administrators and federal program directors.
Other workshops and trainings include Schoolwide components, substitute teachers and professional development for certified paraprofessionals. The Federal Application Contracted Services includes full support to contracted districts regarding applying for and implementing the funds under Title I. Migrant Education is also addressed through this department.
