Behavior & MTSS Overview

Behavior, Discipline, Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS), Mental Health, and Social-Emotional Development

 

Region 3 provides training and technical assistance to support our districts in the following areas:

    • Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS), also called RtI for Behavior - Services provided in positive behavioral supports in cooperation with a comprehensive, statewide effort to address behavioral issues at three levels:
      • School-wide or universal strategies (Tier 1)
      • Classroom management and selected interventions (Tier 2)
      • Individual or targeted interventions (Tier 3)
  • Technical assistance to assist in effectively managing student behavior in the environment, from the whole campus to the individual student

  • Professional development in emotional and behavioral disorders; functional behavior assessments and behavior intervention plans; evidence-based behavioral interventions and strategies; RtI for Behavior or Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS); mental health issues, including mental health awareness and suicide prevention; programming and curriculum for social-emotional development; behavior management and programming for specialized behavior classrooms; crisis intervention and prevention strategies; Texas Behavior Support Initiative (TBSI); legal issues related to discipline with students with disabilities, and school climate

  • Collaboration with colleagues and districts in effective programming and managing students with emotional and behavioral challenges

Region 3 provides training and technical assistance to support our districts as they implement the multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) framework. The MTSS framework can be considered the umbrella for other support systems, such as RTI, PBIS, DBI, and mental health supports. Response to Intervention (RtI) is a campus-wide approach to meet the academic and behavioral needs of all students.  It is a problem-solving approach to determine and apply the most effective instructional practices for each student.
